The Thames Skills Academy teams up with Regatta London

As an organisation committed to raising standards and improving skills in inland waterways, the Thames Skills Academy is pleased to offer a discount on its most popular course.

Over 1000 people have already completed the Riverside Personal Safety Course, which has been developed for those who use the river, canals, lakes or tidal flowing water for leisure including kayaking, sailing, canoeing, stand up paddling, rowing and more. It is practical, hands-on, good fun and informative.

Regatta London wants to help paddlers to stay safe on the water all year round, particularly when they do not have the support of an organised event, so we are delighted that the TSA can offer a special 2 for 1 deal for the first 32 Regatta London participants to claim. This offer is open until Easter 2020 (you must be 18 years or over) - see details below. The tidal Thames current can travel at five miles an hour – even fast swimmers can’t beat the current.

During the one-day course, accredited by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), you will learn what to do if you or one of your friends falls in. You will gain first-hand experience of the potential dangers of falling into cold water and will get useful tips about how to stay safe. The course, which is run by Searegs, will also teach you how to check that the life jackets you are using are in full working order and are safe to use

The practical sessions include a pool session where you get the chance to experience falling in, learning techniques that will be invaluable in dealing with cold shock and what it’s really like to wear a life jacket that inflates around you.

The feedback we have had from people who have done the course couldn’t be more positive so why not sign up?

The next courses are at the end of October will take place in Shadwell, East London. Courses run throughout the year.
