A wide range of London and UK charities sign up for first Regatta London

12.09.2019

The UK’s newest and most exciting challenge event is almost upon us, with the first ever Regatta London taking place at the end of the month.

One of the key aims of Regatta London is to raise money for some incredible causes across the length and breadth of the country. This aim is really taking shape with 26 charities now signed up for the inaugural event – about half of them from the London area.

The event has three Headline Charity Partners; London Youth Rowing, Thames21 and Mates in Mind, who all reflect the key themes of Regatta London. A big focus for us is to help raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for these amazing causes that care for the environment, our communities and sport as much as we do. London Youth Rowing do incredible work in London for young underprivileged kids who are able to use sport as a release. Thames21 strive to keep the river and the surrounding areas clean and thriving, and Mates in Mind raise and offer vital support for people with mental health problems. Please do visit our Headline Charities whilst at the event, in both Putney and Greenwich, to learn more about the amazing work which they are doing.

As well as these Headline Charities, 10 more of the 26 charities signed up are London-based. They include:

• The Museum of London Archaeology

• Thames Reach

• Thames Estuary Partnership

• Downside Fisher Youth Club

• London Sports Trust

• Fulham Reach Boat Club

• Thames Explorer Trust

• World’s End Lots Road Community Hub (fundraising through Smart)

• Sand’s End Projects In Action, Fulham

• Richmond Upon Thames Age UK

Larger national charities are also well represented at Regatta London. They include:

• Mayhew

• Mental Health

• Kidney Care UK

• Working Families

• Sport for Good Foundation

• SPARKS

• SANE

• RETT UK

• Doncaster Deaf Trust

• Lindsey Lodge Hospice

• Love Rowing

• Plastic Patrol

• Alzheimer’s Society

John Sage, Corporate Responsibility Manager for Tideway, the company which founded Regatta London, said: “Regatta London is a critical part of Tideway’s community legacy for London and it is fantastic to see the range of local and national charities who want to get involved in the first year.  As well as raising vital funds for these brilliant causes, the event will provide a great platform for them to boost their profile and gain new supporters. This is even more important for smaller London charities, many of whom neighbour our sites along the river, and we are so pleased to be able to support them through this event.”

JustGiving is the official fundraising partner of Regatta London. By making a JustGiving page associated with Regatta London, it gives a quick and easy way for friends and family to donate straight to one of the incredible charities.

A JustGiving Spokesperson said:

“JustGiving is incredibly excited to be the official fundraising partner for Regatta London. This is an amazing opportunity for people to experience London like never before all whilst raising money for good causes. Whether rowing, paddle-boarding, kayaking or canoeing, all of those taking part in this inaugural regatta will be making history for what is sure to be an amazing annual event like no other.”

In the lead up to the event, there are still plenty of options to get involved. If you are a charity you can still sign up and take part on the website. If you haven’t entered yet you can still do so for one of the many charities found on the website here, and even if you are already signed up, you can still fundraise for any charity listed! The possibilities really are endless.

We will see you on the start line as you make a real difference to people’s lives.
